Modern Idioms (and where they come from)

Mental safari

A period of brief insanity; a series of rash or stupid actions.

The phrase can be directly attributed to comedian Alex Horne, who set out to introduce it into wider usage as part of his "Verbal Gardening" project. He first used it on an internet message board in 2006, and subsequently discussed it in his book Wordwatching in 2010.
