Hospital pass

An action that plays someone else into trouble.

Derived from sports such as rugby, American football or Australian rules football, a hospital pass is an ill-timed or otherwise poorly executed pass that immediatley places the recipient in danger of being hit by a heavy tackle from the opposition, and therefore at risk of serious injury. By extension, a hospital pass could more broadly refer to any action that sets someone else up to receive punishment.
